Why join us?

Whether to learn more about yourself, document your family history, hone your storytelling skills or find a welcoming writing community, the Guided Autobiography method has helped thousands of people around the world.

With encouragement from open-ended exercises around universal themes, and guidance from certified instructors, you will write two pages weekly and share your work aloud.

By the end of the cycle, you'll have at least seven chapters of your story — and ideas and inspiration for many more.

What happens in a Guided Autobiography workshop?

Guided Autobiography (GAB) is a researched and structured method that helps people of all ages, and with all levels of writing experience, reflect on their significant life experiences.

Each session is conducted in small groups and focuses on a specific theme, such as family, money, career, health, the body and spirituality.

Via gentle prompts designed to help you remember and make connections, you will write both during the session and outside it. Each week, you will read approximately two pages aloud, then listen as the group reflects on what is strong and memorable in your piece.

In these workshops, there are no critiques, only thoughtful support. Participants say the joy of the class comes as much from listening to others' stories as from writing their own.

GAB classes are held all over the world and in settings of all kinds, including prisons, hospitals and schools. You can learn more about the method and its history here.
